10 Ways to Achieve That No-Makeup Summer Glow

#1 Let Food Be Your Medicine

Spirulina Rose Matcha Lemonade

Outside of using Elysse’s amazing 3 Steps To Glow products, you also have to put in a little work to naturally help you glow from within. What I mean by that is, drinking a ton of water and eating foods that naturally get you glowing from the inside out. When you’re body is dehydrated, our cells get clogged up with toxins, our metabolism slows down, we feel tired and constipated, and you can get dull, dry skin. Hydration is key.

Food plays a huge role in the way our skin looks, feels, and glows. So choosing the right foods to incorporate into your daily diet will help to not only nourish the body, but also give you glowing flawless skin, hair, and nails, where makeup isn’t even needed.

Recommended foods to eat for glowing skin are avocados, bee pollen, spirulina powder, chlorella powder, blueberries, wild salmon, green tea, flaxseeds, leafy greens, nuts, lemon, and turmeric. Also, consider eating foods high in antioxidants like artichokes, pomegranates, pecans, and berries. Drink lots of water or coconut water to help flush out toxins. Things you want to stay away from or limit are processed foods, refined sugar, alcohol, and dairy consumption.

# 2 Gut Health and Vitamins

The secret to glowing skin also comes from great gut health so, build your gut microbiome. What are microbiomes? Your body is made up of trillions of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Collectively, these are known as microbiomes. This is very critical because most of the microbes are in your intestines, which act as another organ that’s crucial for your health because it controls the digestions of food, immune system, central nervous system, and more. Our bodies are dependent on these bacteria to help regulate our immune system, aid in digestion, and produce certain vitamins. It protects us against disease-causing bacteria. (SOURCE) So how does that affect your skin? Poor gut health can contribute to dry skin, dull skin, eczema, skin inflammation, psoriasis, acne, and more.

How do we gain better gut health? Vitamins and eating fresh fruits and veggies. I’d recommend including fermented foods into your diet like kombucha, kimchi, kefir yogurts, and of course, fresh fruits and veggies. But aside from that here are a few vitamins I recommend:

  • Probiotics: Probiotics are live bacteria that help restore the gut. A healthy gut microbiome controls gut health by preventing disease-causing bacteria from sticking to intestinal walls. Having a healthy gut will help support healthy skin.
  • Collagen: This is a micronutrient of protein that is essential for healthy skin, hair, and nails. You can buy them flavored or unflavored and incorporate them daily into your food and drinks.

#3 Cleanse

Let’s dive into skincare now. The first step is to always cleanse your skin. If you have makeup on, I highly recommend double cleansing your skin (only on days you wear makeup) to really help remove dirt and grime. Personally, oil cleansers are my favorite and they’re great for every skin type, including those with oily skin. My favorite pre-cleanser is by True Botanicals.

With or without makeup, I always reach for The Giver (Cleanser)I have been using The Giver cleanser for a long time now. It’s an oil-based cleanser that contains ingredients such as coffee, to reduce the look of dark circles; Moringa which is Chlorophyll-rich to minimize fine lines and wrinkles, and Roselle Hibiscus; to replenish collagen and smooth the skin texture. It can also be a rinsable cleanser too! Use the organic face towels to gently remove dirt, grime, and makeup.

#4 Exfoliate

There are two ways to exfoliate the skin. One is with a tool that I love called the Holistic Beauties BFF Tool. It’s a gentle tool made with medical-grade silicone that has multiple vibration frequencies to help slough off dead skin. What I like most is that it’s easy and simple to wash after each use leaving no bacteria to hoard inside like the Clarisonic brushes.

The second way is with a good exfoliant product. Wabi-Sabi has one of my personal favorite products called The Valley of Light mask. It’s a 2-in-1 mask that is both an exfoliant and a face mask. Now, if you were to skip step #5, (steam and extract), you can just dive into this mask. If you chose to do step #5, use the BFF tool with the cleanser or a regular exfoliant product like this one by Pai.

**Note: I recommend exfoliating at least 2x a week. You’ll notice a huge difference in your skin.**

#5 Steam and Extract

This is the time to open your pores so that the following serums and products you apply can sink deeper with the facial steamer. You can warm a hot bowl of water and place your face over it for a 5 minutes to open your pores, or you can buy THIS facial steamer (mine will arrive in August) to achieve this look. It was rated very high so I can’t wait to get it. I also found THIS budget-friendly option that also received amazing reviews on Amazon. Either way, a facial steamer is a must and something so soothing and beneficial.

Once pores are nice and open from the steamer, it’s time to extract any congestion. You can use THIS Pore Extractor and Serum Infuser. I may warn you, it’s gross but also VERY addicting and satisfying LOL.

#6 Mask

Valley of Light (Face Mask): This mask is pure magic. I would DEFINITELY include this in your 3 steps to glow Wabi-Sabi Products because it’s that good! Made with Raw Volcanic Cacao, which is rich in antioxidants to fight the effects of free radicals; Hibiscus, which gently exfoliates the skin; Javanese Turmeric, which brightens the skin and minimizes blemishes, and Balinese coffee, to help with dark circles and de-puffing.

**Tip: for extra hydration, mix the mask with Manuka honey or use the Wabi-Sabi Botanicals toner called The Offering.

#7 Tone and Hydrate with Vitamin C

The best thing you can do for your skin is to hydrate it and drink lots and lots of water. There’s a big difference between skin hydration and skin moisture! Hydration comes from water, whereas moisture comes from oil, and your skin absolutely needs both to keep healthy and resilient. A toner restores moisture back into the skin and ensures your serums and oils will perform at its best prepped.

The Offering: The powerhouse ingredient is Probiotics, which is to tone and balance the skin for a plump, smooth appearance. Orange Blossom helps minimize fine lines and sun damage, Reishi & Shitake; which is beta-glucan, and vitamin D-rich adaptogens to soothe the look of redness.

Vitamin C is something you definitely want to include in your skincare routine. It’s a powerful, water-soluble antioxidant that helps to stimulate sun exposure and boost collagen and elastin production, resulting in firmer skin. Note: if you have very sensitive skin, this could cause skin irritation.

I love powder form Vitamin C, like Agent Nateur, because you can activate it with your favorite toner (The Offering).

#8 Serums and Moisturizers

Serums: Choose a serum that is going to target your specific skin’s needs. For example, if you have dry skin, mature skin, oily skin, acne-prone skin, find and use the right serum to help you target your skin concerns. No matter your skin needs, Wabi-Sabi Botanicals has you covered. There are four to choose from: Age Gracefully, Light Reveal, Blemish Correct, and Balancing Act.

Oils/Moisturizers: The last step is to then top it all off with an ultra-moisturizing face oil. The face oil is to lock in the hydration and provide the skin with an extra dose of antioxidants. There are two that I recommend. One is Wabi-Sabi‘s affordable and amazing product called the Moisture Boost Oil. It contains Amaranth Squalane to repair dry skin. The second is Tata Harper’s Illuminating Moisturizer. It contains diamond dust that gives you a subtle and illuminating glow.

#9 Facial Tools

Now for the fun part…facial tools!

  • Gua Sha: This is my favorite facial tool to use every single day. I call it my natural botox and facelift tool. They come in several stones, shapes, colors, and all of it is based on what style you like.

Gua Sha helps relieve muscle tension and stress in the face by breaking up the fascia, the connective tissue the runs through the muscle. You’ll notice a difference in your skin’s appearance, less puffiness, more glow. This is the ultimate facial massage that will help circulate blood flow and oxygen, but also help with wrinkles, tightening of the skin, and increase circulation and lymphatic flow. Wabi-Sabi has the best gua sha tools. I just love her styles and designs. Get ready to get for the ultimate glowing experience.

Tip: Be sure to apply a lot of oil on the face and neck to ensure it glides onto the skin smoothly without pulling and tugging. You don’t need to use too much pressure. Lastly, don’t neglect the neck.

  • Jade Roller: This is a great tool for depuffing the skin. You certainly don’t need both, but if you’re looking for something with less pulling, this is a great option. Face rollers help circulate the oxygen and release tension in the skin like a gua sha does, but it doesn’t help with lymphatic flow which is why I personally like the Gua Sha. Apply your oils like you would and roll it onto the skin.

To use: I’d recommend you use the jade roller the same way you would a gua sha. Be sure to always wash your tools after each use.

#10 Sunscreen

Sunscreen is very critical to apply every single day in the morning. After all your hard work to get your skin glowing you want to protect it right? UVA rays penetrate deeper than UVB rays and can increase the signs of aging, contributing to wrinkles and fine lines. UVB rays damage the outer layers of the skin causing burns. So, protect that glowing beautiful skin. This one, by Kypris, protects against both UVA and UVB and acts as a primer as well.
