Makeup Board with Crunchi and Fitglow and Ilia

Hi Loves! If you follow @britreynolds on Instagram, then you probably caught this fun step-by-step makeup tutorial over on her feed. It’s a look I do quite often and most of you love so I decided to share this Clean Beauty Date Night Makeup Look.

I am a big believer in switching out your conventional makeup for clean non-toxic ones. There are so many ingredients contained in conventional makeup and skincare products that are not regulated. I’m talking men, women, and children products including oral healthcare. Let’s quickly review what you’d find in conventional products and why you should consider making the switch…

A Closer Look at Toxic Chemicals in Beauty Products

Did you know…

  • 11 ingredients known to the state of California cause cancer or developmental problems
  • 29 ingredients are banned in Canadian cosmetics
  • 70 ingredients banned in European cosmetic hair dyes
  • The term “fragrance” can mean any combination of over 3,100 stock chemical ingredients
  • There are 1,328 harmful chemicals that are banned in Europe, while the US FDA has only banned or restricted 11.
  • 13,000 chemicals are used in cosmetics, and only about 10% have been evaluated for safety

Let’s take a closer look at the toxic chemicals in beauty products and what they can do to do…Formaldehyde: this is carcinogenic. It causes allergic reactions and irritates the eyes and respiratory system. Dibutyl Phthalate: is an endocrine disruptor and a developmental toxicant that harms male reproductive system development. It can cause early puberty in boys.

Fragrance: You will see this labeled as many different things such as perfume, parfum, aroma, and synthetic musk. Unfortunately, “fragrance” has no FDA regulation and can be a combination of over 3,000 different stock chemicals that imitate a smell or contain phthalates. Fragrance is associated with allergies, headaches, and endocrine disruption.

Last but not least… Aluminum: most common in conventional deodorants and antiperspirants. Heavy metal buildup in the body can contribute to acute or chronic toxicity. Long-term exposure can cause physical, muscular, and neurological degenerative processes, or even worse, cancer. Yikes! Check out my deodorant blog post for more info.
