Non-Toxic hair care has come along way in the clean beauty world. I remember when all I could find was shampoo and conditioner and it wasn’t doing what I wanted it to do. But now, here we are. Products for every hair type and for many types of styles.

How many of you hate doing your hair like me? I am so lazy when it comes to doing hair. I wash it about 2-3x a week and style it in a way that will last me a few days because I really hate fussing with it. I like to shower at night and allow my hair to air-dry. I find that it holds a better curl that lasts a few days. Plus, if I’m honest…I’m lazy and hate blow-drying my hair. So air-dry it is.

Now on to the fun stuff… non-toxic hair care recommendations

*This post is 100% my own opinion and in no way sponsored

* I realize that there may be products that don’t work for me but might be amazing for others based on different hair types.

Non-Toxic Hair Care Products

Shampoo
An area that is probably still the most difficult for me is shampoo. Why? Well, because what gives shampoo that good lather is all the not so good ingredients. So finding a clean shampoo that helps my scalp feel clean is important. Here are the ones I have tried so far and my thoughts on them. As you see, this was a lot of trial and error and I sampled a lot for this post.

  • Innersense Shampoo and Conditioner:  Everyone loves and raves about this one. Truth be told, I didn’t love it as much when I first tried it. It took me about a good 2 weeks to say it’s now my favorite one on the market. I have to get over the fact that there was no lather. Most clean shampoos won’t have it. Once you’ve accepted that, you are more open-minded to them. This shampoo and conditioner leave my hair silky, hydrated, and clean. I notice I don’t have as much frizz and my hairstyles great. Tip: Don’t put conditioner on the scalp area at all as it will leave you a bit oily. The ends are only needed.
  • Reverie Shampoo and Conditioner: So far I am loving this shampoo. This, out of all the ones I have tried, gives you that slight lather. It leaves my hair feeling clean and radiant. This one is perfect for color-treated and medium-thick hair and is a bit more on the pricier side. I don’t think I’d buy it again just because it’s expensive. I haven’t tried the conditioner yet since I still have and like the one by Innersense.
  • Rahua Shampoo and Conditioner: Another great one I am loving. It gives you a little lather and leaves your hair clean. Plus it contains aloe which helps calm itchy scalps. I don’t feel like it dries out my hair at all. But it’s also a pricey bottle. I purchased this shampoo in the travel size first to see how I like it and I did, but again, just a bit on the pricier end. Luckily, I have a discount code for these (see above).
  • Ursa Major Shampoo and Conditioner: The price point for this brand is way cheaper than the one mentioned above. You do get a slight lather with this shampoo, but again, something is missing for me…I personally didn’t feel like it made my hair as soft as the Innersene brand. I wouldn’t repurchase again but I know a lot of people who love this brand. Something to try for yourself perhaps. Purchase through Follain and use code: ref_precioustimeblog to save 15% off
  • Acure Shampoo: Ok, so this one gets mixed reviews all the time and I actually like this shampoo. The price is AMAZING…I’m talking $10 a bottle and can buy it at Whole Foods or Target. However, later I noticed the one I am using has “Fragrance” as the ingredient which is a no-no ingredient. But, the reason why I brought it up was that they have like 2 scents that rate 3 on the Think Dirty app so it’s much cleaner if you are looking for something more budget-friendly. If you’re ok with a little balance then this is good, but I opted out of this brand. I like to keep this brand in spare bathrooms for guests. It’s a cleaner option and affordable. But again, I love my Innersense over this brand.

Styling Creams

  • Le Baume: I’ve had my styling balm for almost a year now and I have so much of the product left still (I only wash my hair 2-3x a wk). This balm is the ultimate styling creme in my opinion. It tames frizz, helps hair in humidity climate, and gives you shine and texture. It also repairs and protects your hair from styling tools and acts as a leave-in conditioner. All you need is a tiny pea size amount and apply at the ends of the hair. Hands down the best non-toxic hair care product I own.
  • Captain Blankenship Mermaid Sea Salt Hairspray: This sea salt spray is amazing. I find that it works best for me when I have already styled and curled my hair, then I spritz this on my curls. It holds my curls and gives them a beachy look.
  • Captain Blankenship Oil: I got this one in a Detox Market Box and love this oil as well. Very hydrating and nourishing when your hair needs a little pick me up. Apply at the tips only.
  • Innersense Hair Spray: Love this hairspray because it has great hold, but it’s not sticky. I do need to apply more on some baby hairs when it’s up in a pony but overall, this is amazing and I would repurchase again. I have been using the same bottle for almost a year so you know a little goes a long way. Spritz on curls for a soft hold.
  • Josh Rosebrook Serum Spray: I also got this in the Detox Box Monthly Subscription and I am so glad this was part of it. Use it on dry or wet hair to help tame and smooth frizz, and it acts as a heat protector. Such a great product.

Styling Tools and Accessories

  • Hair Ties: These are by far my favorite hair ties. They don’t crease your hair, give you headaches, or stretch out. Perfect for stocking stuffers, birthday gifts, or just because. I love that I can throw my newly styled hair up and then take it down and not have any crease in it.
  • Curling Iron: This is my favorite curling iron. I bought the one that came with three different sized barrels and mainly use the medium size barrel. Heats up within 30 seconds and holds my curls better than any other curling iron I have used. It’s the best on the market for sure.
  • Hair Towel: Bought this online and love it because it dries my hair a bit faster than normal and you can throw your hair up in the towel and not have it hurt your neck. I admit I would use my large bath towel to dry my hair and no way am I going back to that.
  • Brush: This brush is literally just amazing. Under $20 and eco-friendly with the bamboo material but best of all, it doesn’t snag or pull out my hair and it helps with static. The best bang for your buck. You don’t have to spend a ton of money on good quality all the time.
  • Hair Scarf: I love a good hair scarf. It’s a good way to spice up your everyday hair look.

I hope you found this non-toxic hair care post helpful and it gets you more excited to start trying it all!
