Summer time! I love the summer but hate getting eaten alive by mosquitos. There are so many bug sprays containing harsh chemicals that I try to avoid. Deet free is a big one. But there are even some products that contain deet free ingredients but still have some other chemicals. My youngest son is slightly allergic to bug bites and whenever he does get bite, he swells up. So I created my own bug spray that not only helps keep the mosquitos away but I feel confident spraying on myself as well as my babies. So if you’re looking for a safe alternative to what’s on the market, here is a recipe you can create using essential oils.
- Ingredients:
- 4 oz glass spray bottle
- 11 drops Citronella essential oil
- 5 drops peppermint essential oil
- 5 drops Lemongrass essential oil
- 5 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
- 5 Tea Tree oil
- 1-2 TBSP witch hazel
- Filtered water
- Small funnel (optional)
Directions:
Start by adding all of your essential oils into your spray bottle. Then add your witch hazel and fill the remaining bottle up with filtered water. Give it a shake and spray all over body before going outside.
I like to reapply every 30 min because mosquitos are bad out here in Texas and I hate getting bite.
