One of the biggest ways I try to keep healthy is by drinking clean filtered water throughout the day! Using my Berkey Water Filter is one of the most effective ways to reduce exposure to pollutants because it’s ensuring I’m consuming clean filtered water.

Dallas has some badly chlorinated water. So bad that it involved Erin Brockovich to help educate Texans to fight for better water filtration systems. See article here. Even where I live in Dallas, when you first turn on the shower faucet, it has a slight smell to it for a few seconds before it goes away. It’s the weirdest thing. To top it all off, my boys have very sensitive skin, so it’s no wonder why they are itchy right? What I’m trying to say is, we need to be careful about the water we not only consume but also the water we use on our bodies.
Why should you care?
When you consume tap water or water not properly filtered, you’re intaking industrial and agricultural contaminants that have been linked to cancer, brain and nervous system damage, developmental detects, fertility problems, and hormone disruption. Do you really want to take that chance?
You can also read more about contaminants in your water by reading THIS article by the EWG.
- Want to know what Berkey Filters will remove? Let me tell you…
- 99.9999% Bacteria like E..coli, viruses, parasites
- 99.9% Heavy metals, BPA, PFOAS, Chloramines, Petroleum, Herbicides and pesticides.
- 99.5% heavy metals, pahrmaceuticals, flouride, radiology
and much more….
Is bottled water safer
No! In fact, I urge you to stop buying them all together. There have been several cases where bottled water has tested to be worse than tap water co gaining higher levels of bacteria. Not to mention, bottled water contains BPA and Phthalates that leaches into your water causing potential ovarian, prostate, and phthalates.
How do I ensure I’m drinking clean water?
- Invest in a Berkey Water Filter. I personally have the Royal Berkey which is perfect for a family of 4. It removes viruses, pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites, and extracts chemicals like herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, and much much more…
- Invest in glass or stainless steel water bottles. Keep them around the house and fill up for everyone before leaving the house.
- If you must drink from a water bottle, I recommend the following: a) ensure it’s at least in a glass bottle b) look for 100% Spring Water

What else can help with our water filtration system at home?
I know that buying a home filtration system can be expensive and daunting. Let’s face it…it could also be hard to find one company that can clean the whole home like a Berkey filter can. One thing I eventually plan on doing is switching out shower heads in all the bathrooms. Berkey has some that’s received great reviews. You shower most every single day and if you have kids, they like to open their mouths and put water in it from the shower, maybe even drink it…YIKES!
I also would like to get some sort of filtration system for the kitchen sink. I use my Berkey Filters to drink, clean my produce, boil beans and rice, and use to fill my tea or coffee pot. But if I had something for my kitchen sink, that would be even better. More to report back on once I find something on that.
I am still learning about water filters but am so happy I have at least started taking the first step into educating myself and making change using my Berkey Filter. I encourage you all to read up on this issue and invest in your health and cleaner water.
